The Tulane women matched and even surpassed SEC opponent Missouri’s physicality for most of Thursday night.
The problem was the Green Wave could not make an outside shot until it was too late.
The Tigers went ahead for good, 33-31, on a 3-pointer from Jayda Brown with 38 seconds left in the first half and pulled away from the cold-shooting Wave after the break to win 77-69 at Devlin Fieldhouse. By the end of the third quarter, Tulane (1-1) was 1 of 14 from long range while Missouri (2-0) was 8 of 20.
That disparity proved too much to overcome. Even when CC Mays finally hit a pair of 3s in the fourth quarter and Jordyn Weaver followed with another, the Wave could not cut its deficit below eight points until the final two minutes.
