ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As a phased 10% reduction in flights begins at 40 high-traffic airports across the country, travelers in Rochester are being advised to follow standard protocols and download their airline’s app.
The U.S. Transportation Secretary issued an emergency order Thursday night that takes effect at 6 a.m. Friday. The order begins with a 4% reduction in flights, ramping up to 6% by Nov. 11, 8% by Nov. 13, and reaching 10% by next Friday, Nov. 14.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called these “proactive actions” a response to the ongoing federal shutdown, which has prevented air traffic controllers from being paid and created additional stress on the system.
