OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Oceanside Police Department is the first law enforcement agency in San Diego County to join the ‘Naloxone Leave Behind Program.’
Oceanside officers already carry Naloxone with them to scenes of overdoses. Still, now this program will allow them to leave behind a pouch containing an extra dose of the medicine and a QR code that directs someone to a San Diego County website with information and resources for seeking help.
“It’s a game changer,” said Oceanside Police Chief Taurino Valdovinos. “It seems it impacts our homeless community the most. We are responding to overdoses daily. Not all of them lead to deaths, thanks to programs like this, but we respond to those calls for service daily.”
