The general secretary of a union was joining striking transport workers on a picket line in central Manchester today - Friday - as industrial action continues.

Transport for Greater Manchester workers are on strike in a row over pay, with further mass walkouts planned for Manchester into next week. Friday's strike is the second this week.

Unison said its general secretary, Christina McAnea, would be joining the picket line today outside the Transport for Greater Manchester offices at Piccadilly Place from 10.30am. The union said she would be giving her support to almost 400 workers striking over what Unison called a 'below-inflation pay offer'.
