Robert Williams was merely 25 when he became the globe's first victim to die at the hands of a robot. ‌

He was employed at Ford Motor Company's casting facility in Flat Rock, Michigan on January 25, 1979, and on the fateful day of his shocking demise was operating alongside a parts-retrieval system. ‌

The apparatus was designed to transport castings and various materials across different sections of the factory, and it appeared a technical fault had developed as the machinery seemed sluggish in its operations. ‌
