There is a moment early in 'Maxton Hall - The World Between Us Season 2' when Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) looks lost -- not because she doesn't know what to do, but because everything around her seems to have slipped out of her control. That feeling pretty much sums up the show this season: still beautiful, still emotional, but stripped of the spark that once made it special.
The first season had its share of cliches: the rich boy, the ambitious scholarship girl, the predictable push and pull of first love, but it worked because Ruby and James (Damian Hardung) made you root for them. Their chemistry gave the show a sense of charm and balance. Season 2, however, trades that charm for unrelenting gloom.
