NEW YORK (PIX11) -- More than 20 flights were canceled at each of the tri-state area's major airports on Friday morning, a day after the Federal Aviation Administration announced a 10% decrease in air traffic as a result of the ongoing government shutdown.

More than 1,000 flights had been canceled nationwide by 8 a.m. Friday morning, including 15 to 20 flights each at John F. Kennedy Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport, according to FlightAware. It marks the highest number of cancellations in one day since the start of the week.

Air traffic cuts could also disrupt package deliveries because airports with FedEx and UPS are on the list of those with reductions.
