Travellers have been warned to remain informed of new alcohol restrictions across Thailand coming into effect later this week.

Thailand ‘s Alcoholic Beverage Control Act will be enforced from Saturday, bringing sweeping changes for both tourists and locals.

First published in the Royal Gazette on September 8, the act means alcohol can not be consumed outside of the hours between 11am-2pm and 5pm-12am.

It expands on current laws which have the same time frames, but have exceptions for international airports, registered entertainment venues and registered hotels.

Individuals and sellers found drinking alcohol outside of the restricted hours can face fines of up to 10,000 Thai Baht, about $A470.99.
