Sarnia may need to take another look at expanding its urban boundary.
Land needs assessment data, via consultants in a County of Lambton official plan review process , projects Sarnia’s population rising to 90,500 in 2051.

As of 2021, the city was home to nearly 75,000 people, the reports say.
Those projections – based on Ontario Ministry of Finance population projections – mean Sarnia would need to unlock another 110 hectares not already in the urban boundary for more residential, according to a recent Parcel Economics Inc. report prepared for the county.
The calculation is also based in part on Sarnia population projections prepared four years ago for the city’s own official plan update.
Those 110.5 hectares would be on top of the 36 former research park hect
