MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is dead after he fell over the edge in the western Grand Canyon on Thursday.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to Guano Point to assist the Hualapai Nation with the recovery of the body of a man who died when he slipped and fell over the edge and into the canyon.
Search and rescue crews found the 65-year-old man’s body about 130 feet down in a pile of rocks. They used ropes to make a pulley system that could lower into the canyon then raise the man’s body.
The body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office. The man has not yet been publicly identified.
Authorities thanked all crews who helped with the recovery and gave condolences to the man’s family.
