CIRCLEVILLE, W.Va. — A wildfire detected Wednesday in Pendleton County, south of Circleville, West Virginia, near the community of Big Mountain, has grown to approximately 200 acres as of Friday.
The wildfire was initially estimated at 50 acres with active, wind-driven fire. It continues to burn on steep, mountainous terrain in an oak-hickory forest type.
The fire is being managed under unified command with the state of West Virginia and the USDA Forest Service, Monongahela National Forest. Ground crews and a helicopter with water-dropping capabilities are on site actively suppressing the wildfire.
