Students of a Jefferson County school will be learning remotely on Monday.

The EPIC Alternative Elementary School's building will be closed Monday, Nov. 10, due to a natural gas leak found near the school on Friday.

Gas service to the school was subsequently turned off and students are safe, officials said in a statement.

Birmingham City Schools said students will receive remote instruction and are working to ensure all students have devices and access to the internet through mobile hotspots as needed.

If you are in need of a device or wireless hotspots, BCS officials said either can be picked up at the Lincoln Professional Development Center on Ninth Avenue North.
