CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The government shutdown is causing flight cancellations nationwide, and people in eastern North Carolina are feeling the impacts.

Fliers across the country are worried they might be stranded somewhere without a flight home. In eastern North Carolina, the news hits close to home.

“Well, we were really nervous when we saw cancellations were going on here in New Bern,” said Jennifer Merideth, a Newport resident.

The news comes after the FAA ordered a reduction in air traffic at 40 airports across the country as a safety precaution. It’s because air traffic control workers are currently not being paid due to the government shutdown.
