NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new Southeast precinct opened on Friday with 80 officers covering 73 square miles, as Nashville police work to build on a 22% crime reduction in South Nashville this year.

Southeast Precinct Commander Carlos Lara said the decrease is thanks to community connections and precision policing. He expects the new facility to drive crime rates down further.

“By the end of next year, I want crime to drop from what we have this year. So whatever it is, I want it to be a dramatic drop,” Lara said.

Faster response times and improved visibility

The new precinct is designed to relieve pressure on other precincts and improve response times citywide.
