DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Stone Mountain man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in connection to a 2023 shooting that left a 19-year-old girl dead.

On Thursday, a DeKalb County jury found Malachi Coleman, 23, guilty of malice murder; felony murder; two counts of aggravated assault; and possession of a firearm for the murder of Jayce Pirtle and the shooting of her 16-year-old sister.

Police responded around 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2023, to a call of a person shot in the 500 block of Arbor Ridge Drive in Stone Mountain. When police arrived, they found Pirtle and her sister with gunshot wounds.

Pirtle was pronounced deceased at the scene, while her sister was taken to a local hospital. She survive
