ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Anxious travelers moved through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday, the first day of a domestic flight reduction ordered by the FAA because of the government shutdown.
In Atlanta, at least 440 flights in and out of the world’s busiest airport were delayed and at least 87 were cancelled.
“My sister was scheduled to leave this afternoon, her flight was cancelled,” Beatriz Montalvo said.
Montalvo, who is meeting her sister in Charlottesville, Virginia, for UVA’s family weekend, said her sister ended up renting a car and driving.
“We’ve gotten here five hours ahead of our scheduled departure time just in case,” Montalvo said.
Normally, she’d only arrive one hour before a domestic flight.
