John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, is preparing to launch a bid for Congress, POLITICO reports.

The 32-year-old Democratic activist and writer has already hired campaign staff and could formally announce his run for New York’s 12th Congressional District as soon as next week, according to the outlet.

“It’s happening,” one person familiar with Schlossberg’s plans told POLITICO Playbook reporter Jason Beeferman, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The 12th District covers Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Midtown, and is one of the most heavily Democratic districts in the country, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+33.

The seat is currently held by longtime Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who announced he will not seek re-election when his current term ends.

Schlossberg is the only grandson of the late President John F. Kennedy and former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. He is the son of Caroline Kennedy, the former U.S. ambassador to Australia.

A graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, he has worked as a writer, political commentator, and public speaker, often invoking his grandfather’s legacy in discussions about public service and civic engagement.

He has also served on the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s Board of Directors and has appeared at numerous events honoring his family’s political heritage.

If he enters the race, Schlossberg would instantly become one of the most closely watched candidates in the 2026 election cycle, bringing both name recognition and the storied Kennedy political brand to one of New York’s most powerful congressional seats.
