The view of Lake Martin just got a lot better thanks to a local organization.

The Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association held a ribbon cutting today for the newest fire lookout tower on Overlook Drive in Dadeville.

The 110 foot tall structure offers panoramic views of the southern end of the lake.

The tower originally stood in Sedley, Virginia, but a couple who owned it, donated it to the association four years ago.

A group of trail association members, known as the Sedley Six, made the trip north to disassemble the structure and bring it home to Alabama for reassembly.

The effort was led by the trail associations founder Jimmy K. Lanier, but quickly became a community wide mission.

Volunteers from Elmore and Tallapoosa counties donated thousands of hours and most of the funds came
