A former deputy head teacher who was banned from the profession after watching child rape videos applied to become an English tutor. Richard Swinnerton denied engaging in “regulated activity from which barred” after he sought to engage in an activity regulated by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, namely an English tutor for the Learning Curve Group in Hartlepool .

But, following a trial at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, he has been found guilty of the single charge. Teesside Magistrates' Court heard previously how Swinnerton, 36, applied for a teaching role but didn’t disclose that he was banned from teaching children.

He is due to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court next month after he was found guilty by District Judge Stephen Hood during a hearing on November 3.
