DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings returned to the friendly confines of Little Caesars Arena, where they had won five in a row, following an extended road trip. But the New York Rangers continued to feel right at home on the road.
The Rangers scored a pair of goals in a 58-second span in the third period to gain separation Friday and Jonathan Quick made 31 saves in a 4-1 victory.
The Red Wings (9-6-0), coming off a 3-2-0 trip, have dropped two in a row, scoring only one goal in the process. The Rangers (7-6-2) improved to 7-1-1 on the road.
J.T. Compher scored the Red Wings’ lone goal to tie it at 1-1 at 11:06 of the first period, his third of the season. Parked by the side of the net, he fired in a pass from Mason Appleton.
But the Rangers responded with the next three goals.
