BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — The Latin American Association’s food pantry is running dangerously low on supplies, even as a record number of families turn to it for help. Officials said the rising demand, combined with delays in SNAP benefits , is creating what they call a humanitarian crisis for Atlanta’s Latino community.

The LAA, located on Buford Highway, put out an urgent call for help Friday morning, alerting the public that its food pantry shelves are nearly empty. The organization reported feeding its highest number of families in a single day since July 2024—serving 39 households—more than double their daily average.
