A San Benito woman battling breast cancer received a surprise from the Harlingen Fire Department.

On Friday, Valentina Arabula received a $2,000 check from the Harlingen Professional Firefighters Association.

The money was raised through a t-shirt sale hosted by the fire department, and $4,000 was raised from that sale.

The fire department said the goal is to donate the money to two patients selected by the RGV Cancer Treatment Center in Harlingen.

To qualify, patients must be in financial need and not have insurance.

“I want to thank everyone who bought that shirt so they can make the donation,” Arabula said. “Because for someone who is going through this situation, you lose your job and we don't have money for certain things."
