MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FedEx said they are grounding their fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-11 planes “out of an abundance of caution” following a deadly crash at the UPS global aviation hub in Kentucky.

It a statement to WREG, FedEx is grounding the planes while they conduct a safety review based on the manufacturer's recommendation.

FedEx currently has 28 MD-11s in operation and has approximately 700 aircraft in its fleet.

According to the Associated Press, UPS is also grounding their MD-11 planes.

“We made this decision proactively at the recommendation of the aircraft manufacturer,” a UPS statement said late Friday. “Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our employees and the communities we serve.”
