BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - A U.S. Marine and Bertie County deputies saved the life of a driver who was ejected from a vehicle on fire following an accident on Highway 17 near Wakelon Road exit Oct. 27.
Lieutenant J. Parker and Deputy E. Topliss of the Bertie County Sheriff's Office were on route to a call in Merry Hill around 8 p.m. when they encountered the crash. The Marine and deputies acted quickly to rescue the driver and provide first aid until EMS arrived.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found the driver had been ejected from the vehicle ablaze. The U.S. Marine utilized a first aid kit to administer aid to the injured driver, demonstrating quick thinking and bravery in a critical situation.
