Shots were fired at a residence in Surrey on Saturday morning, prompting an investigation by the RCMP and Surrey Police. Officers responded to a call in the 17000 block of 32nd Avenue, where they discovered damage to the exterior of a home, including bullet holes in a cement fence and a second-story window. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at a large, newly constructed home located at 17075 32nd Avenue. The area between 168th Street and 172nd Street was temporarily closed for police investigation but has since reopened. The RCMP’s General Investigation Unit (GIU) is now handling the case. Authorities have not established any connections to other recent shootings in the area. Witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage are encouraged to contact the Surrey Police non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and reference file number 25-61960 (SU). Surrey has recently experienced a series of shootings linked to extortion at South Asian businesses. In a separate incident last week, the facade of White Rock Gymnastics was also struck by gunfire. The location of Saturday's shooting is a residential area characterized by tree-lined streets and farms, with homes set back from the road behind tall hedges. In a related matter, Vancouver Police are seeking information regarding the homicide of a 48-year-old man in the Strathcona neighborhood. Norman Labonte was found with a gunshot wound on September 30, near Main and Union streets. He was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Constable Tania Visintin of the Vancouver Police Department stated, "There were people walking and driving in the area when this shooting occurred who may have seen or heard something important. Even the smallest piece of information could help detectives move this investigation forward." No charges have been filed in Labonte's case. Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the time of the incident is urged to contact the VPD’s homicide unit at 604-717-2500.
