HINTON, Iowa (KTIV) - Four men traveled from Des Moines to Hinton and three other Iowa cities to install flagpoles for retired veterans and active servicemen on Saturday, Nov. 8.
These four men are a part of the Veteran Flagpole Initiative, a nonprofit that installs the American flag and the Iowa flag for veterans.
There were nine groups putting up a total of 30 flag poles for free across Iowa through the weekend. One of them made a stop in Hinton.
Ryan and Sasha Downs of Hinton received one of the flagpoles. This is the 167th flagpole since the organization started installing flags in January 2022.
Army Captain Sasha Downs has served in the military for 16 years. Her husband, Ryan Downs, is currently deployed and has served for 20 years.
