PORTAGE LAKE -- The Maine Attorney General's Office has ruled that law enforcement was justified when they shot and killed an Aroostook County man back in February.
Officers were called to Ranger Street in Portage Lake on February 3 for a domestic dispute involving a woman and 29-year-old Steven Righini.
The AG's report says Righini resisted arrest and allegedly pulled a firearm from his waistband, firing at law enforcement while retreating inside.
Police then say the 29-year-old attempted to flee in a stolen truck, but was stopped by the Tactical Team's armored vehicle.
Righini then took off on foot, prompting authorities to release Maine State Police K-9 Preacher. Police say Righini then shot Preacher, who died the following day.
