The Monroe Catholic Rams fell short in the Aurora Conference volleyball tournament over the weekend. After sweeping Delta Junction in Friday’s semifinal, the Rams fell to Valdez in Saturday’s championship match, dropping a close three-set contest (20-25, 23-25, 17-25) at Monroe High School.

Monroe wasted no time setting the tone in its semifinal matchup, defeating Delta Junction in straight sets to secure a spot in the Aurora Conference title match.

The Rams controlled the opening frame behind steady serves and crisp hitting, closing it out 25-13. Delta jumped ahead 3-1 early in the second set before Monroe tied it 4-4 and used a 10-7 stretch to pull away. The Rams extended their advantage to 19-10 and closed the set
