OMAHA, Neb. (KETV) - A Nebraska girl and her family are inspiring others as their little girl battles a rare condition with a low survival rate.
Alex was born with nearly no brain and 20 years later ... she’s still fighting.
Lorena and Shawn Simpson welcomed their daughter in 2005. They were told everything was typical with their new baby girl until a doctor’s appointment on New Year’s Day.
“The doctor came in with his nurses and said, ‘You guys need to sit down. This is pretty serious,’” Shawn Simpson recalled.
Alex was diagnosed with hydranencephaly.
“It means that her brain is not there, not half her brain, her whole brain,” Shawn Simpson said. “Technically, she has about half the size of my pinky finger in the back of her cerebellum, in the back part of her brain. But that’s all t
