MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — One pedestrian is dead, and a driver is in the hospital after bees got loose inside a car and caused a crash in Mesa on Saturday morning.
First responders were dispatched to the area of Mesa Drive and McKellips Road on reports of a car driving into a pole.
Authorities say the vehicle was transporting bees, which escaped and stung the driver, causing the crash.
Both the driver and a pedestrian were transported to a nearby hospital. The pedestrian, who has yet to be identified, died from their injuries at the hospital. The driver is expected to be OK.
Northbound Mesa Drive and westbound McKellips Road were closed as crews worked to clear the scene.
