Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi's courtroom drama Haq debuted on November 7 to mostly positive reviews. Despite having a strong topical subject and critical support, the movie got off to a poor start at the box office.

According to box-office tracker Sacnilk, Haq collected approximately ₹1.65 crore net in India on its opening day. The movie's occupancy rates were disappointing, averaging less than 10% for Friday's Hindi 2D shows. The lowest morning occupancy was around 5.66%, while night shows peaked at approximately 16.50%.

The weak opening seems to have been caused by a number of factors. The historic Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum case served as the inspiration for Suparn Verma's film, which might have limited mass-commercial appeal despite its importance.
