ROSWELL, N.M. —

Chaves County Sheriff's Office deputies are at the scene of a kidnapping where a suspect in body armor is holding two females at gunpoint in a residence on the 4700 block of West Jefferson Street, a CCSO social media posting said.

Roswell Police Department officers are also at the scene, and a SWAT team has been called. Chaves County Sheriff Charles Yslas told KOAT.

People who live in the vicinity have been told to stay inside, lock their doors and shelter in place. The public has been told to avoid the area while this situation is going on.
