NORFOLK, Va. — The Supreme Court has granted the Trump Administration's appeal to temporarily block a lower court order requiring SNAP benefits to be fully funded.

The previous order gave the administration until Friday to make payments.

However, the administration asked an appeals court to suspend any orders requiring it to spend more than the contingency funds available. That appeals court did not immediately issue a ruling.

Late Friday night, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued an order pausing the full distribution of SNAP payments until the appeals court issues its ruling.

Funding for the nation's largest anti-hunger program ran out a week ago as the federal government shutdown dragged on. It's leaving many uncertain about when and how SNAP benefits will be given.
