Minnesota United advanced to the Major League Soccer conference semifinals with a thrilling win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday at Allianz Field in St. Paul.
Minnesota, the No. 4 seed, won the decisive third game in the best-of-three series over No. 5 Seattle with the seventh round of penalty kicks. But it took a ferocious comeback for the Loons to give themselves a chance.
Seattle scored twice in the first eight minutes of the game, silencing a sold-out crowd in St. Paul, but only for a moment. In the 19th minute, the Loons cut the deficit in half on Joaquín Pereyra's free kick.
