MONROE CITY, Mo. -- In the second clash of Clarence Cannon Conference rivals in the Class 2 District 7 semifinals, Monroe City once again got the upper hand as it did during Week 6 of the regular season.

Unlike the first meeting, Monroe City ran away with the district semifinal game to come away with a 34-8 win over Palmyra on Friday night at Lankford Field.

"The first time there was a lot of emotion with the Mayor's Cup," said Monroe City head coach David Kirby. "So that emotion and energy kind of affected us negatively and this time around, we had a better understanding of what we wanted to accomplish. We really focused on trying to establish new lines of scrimmage and eliminating big plays. I think that's what we did tonight."
