GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A University of Florida dining hall employee was arrested Friday after police say he brought a firearm on campus.
UFPD officers say surveillance camera footage shows Kenyata McCoy, 21, entering the restroom in the Broward Dining Facility, where he worked as a dishwasher, just after midnight.
They say he was in the restroom for about 10 minutes before the next employee entered the stall and found a gun in the sink.
During questioning, McCoy told police he saw the gun and thought “wow.” He then said he did not bring the firearm into the restroom and just picked up the weapon and put it back down.
The gun, a Glock 43X, was reported stolen from the Gainesville Police Department out of an unoccupied vehicle back in 2020.
