LANSING - Fall turned to winter quickly over the weekend, with the Lansing area and much of Michigan getting its first significant snowfall.
The Lansing area picked up an inch or two, depending on where exactly the snow was measured, but it wasn't enough to stick to roads and sidewalks for the most part.
If it seems early, the white stuff was about on time, based on average snowfall for central Lower Michigan, according to the National Weather Service.
The earliest snow on record fell on Oct. 12, 2006, and the latest came on Dec. 11, 1963, the weather service said.
The average? Nov. 11, so this year's first white stuff was about on schedule, falling overnight Nov. 8 and during the day Nov. 9.
