DRENNEN, W.Va. — A team of three divers was working to locate a missing coal miner at the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County on Sunday afternoon as crews worked to pump out floodwater.
A massive multi-agency effort was underway to dewater a flooded West Virginia mine owned by Alpha Met Resources, with state and federal teams working to clear the site and establish communications for a potential rescue or recovery operation.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey released an update on the situation Sunday morning.
"The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training (OMHST) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) have been on the scene to provide Alpha Met Resources with assistance throughout the process," Morrisey said in an update posted to social media Sunday morning. "W
