DRENNEN, W.Va. — Operations are ongoing to rescue a missing miner at the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County, according to Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
A massive multi-agency effort is underway to dewater a flooded West Virginia mine owned by Alpha Met Resources, with state and federal teams working to clear the site and establish communications for a potential rescue or recovery operation.
"The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training (OMHST) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) have been on the scene to provide Alpha Met Resources with assistance throughout the process," Morrisey said in an update posted to social media Sunday morning. "West Virginia State Police and local first responders have been in close communication to aid in the response."
