Eastern North Carolina is about to feel its first true taste of winter. A strong cold front sweeps across the state tonight, bringing scattered showers and a few thunderstorms as it races east. Some of these storms may produce gusty winds, especially across inland counties late this evening. Behind the front, temperatures drop quickly overnight — expect morning readings in the upper 40s inland and lower 50s along the coast.

Monday will be a classic transition day, cooler, breezy, and drying out. Afternoon highs will only reach the mid-50s inland to around 60 at the beaches, nearly 10 degrees below normal. Clouds will give way to sunshine through the afternoon as dry northwest winds push in behind the front.
