GOODYEAR, Ariz. — More than five dozen veterans took part in a special competition at the Robson Field of Dreams in Goodyear.
“We have an event every year where we wear our military hats for the week, but we wanted to make it a little more special than that and actually have a game,” said Carl Bayes, a retired US Navy lieutenant commander. “This is the end result of just a couple of months of planning.”
On Sunday morning, 65 retired veterans came together to play softball and share their service with others, backed by dozens of enthusiastic community members who volunteered to serve as umpires, cooked up food, and watched the games.
“…a bunch of different generations, all coming together to play a game that we love,” said Bayes.
