The world's first national park, Yellowstone National Park, is a powerhouse of geysers, with an intact ecosystem, dramatic wildlife, and other wondrous geologic features. The park is spread out across three states : Wyoming, where it mostly lies, Montana, and Idaho. But there's a legal loophole in a small part of the park in Idaho that a professor contested: the "Zone of Death."
It's a 50-square-mile strip of Idaho — rarely visited, with no accessible roads, and the trails are overgrown. According to Brian Kalt, a professor at the Michigan State University College of Law, this is a "swath of Idaho in which one might be able to commit felonies with impunity."
Kalt has notified authorities. He even published a research journal article about it in March 2005 titled "Perfect Crime."
