G ilbert is moving ahead on two fronts to address months of resident complaints about unusually high water bills.

The town has hired a national engineering consultant to conduct an independent audit of its metering system and it will hold the first of three utility listening sessions this week to hear directly from affected customers.

In a written statement, the town said a panel interviewed three firms on Oct. 30 and selected Kimley‑Horn and Associates, LLC to perform a third‑party audit of the town’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) radios and water meters.

“This selection was based on their responses to questions regarding objectivity, credibility, data transparency and understanding, public communication and handling of sensitive information,” the statement read.
