The threatened 20-centimetre dump of snow proved to be a sloppy dollop of freezing rain, and nowhere was that transformation of Montreal’s first snowfall more evident than during the Monday rush hour.

As of 6:30 a.m., the Quebec 511 traffic monitoring site reported that Montreal’s road network was largely clear, apart from water accumulation at some points on city highways and — whether in anticipation of a blizzard that never occurred or a consensus on the part of many to work at home — traffic was light.

The Environment Canada forecast for Montreal on Monday calls for p eriods of rain changing to periods of light snow in the morning. Fog patches are expected to dissipate during the morning and snowfall will amount to about 2 cm. The temperature will remain steady near plus 1 C.
