When Ken Freeland’s phone went crazy with broken glass alerts on his home security app, he knew his quaint south Edmonton Art Deco bungalow was in trouble.
Edmonton fire department and police officials believe it was an arsonist’s match that felled two brand-new infill single-family homes in Glenora early Sunday, Nov. 2, before the flames consumed Freeland’s historic home, considered a modern marvel when it was built 90 years ago.
“Bang, bang, bang, everything else just started going wild,” Freeland recalled in an interview with Postmedia.
“The system was so busy I couldn’t look at the camera.
“I had one (security) camera up in a tree looking towards the infill, and all I can see is flames and orange and all these folks,” he said.
