Fire officials on Monday said that the 61-acre Border 18 Fire near the East County community of Dulzura was caused by target shooting.

The blaze began shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday along Marron Valley Road not far from the U.S.-Mexico border. The fire was declared 100% contained shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, 23 hours after it started, according to Cal Fire.

Two injuries were reported from the scene. An ambulance was called to respond to someone with a scorpion sting and another with a knee injury, according to radio traffic.

Cal Fire on Monday warned the public about precautions that must be taken when target shooting.
