GIRARD A developer looking to convert a 21-acre lot in Girard into the city's latest housing development is asking to be reimbursed.

Girard First Ward Councilman Keith Schubert tells 21 News developer Jason Altobelli of Altobelli Real Estate, who is behind the Maplewood Estates development in Girard, is applying for the city's Tax Increment Financing Funds (TIFF) program.

Under the TIFF program, property tax on the development will be assessed over a period of time, and a portion of the revenue from that tax will go back into the TIFF fund, causing Altobelli to get reimbursed for the cost of the infrastructure.

An ordinance to accept this application is entering its third reading at Girard Council's Monday night meeting.
