ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor is banning on-street parking along a stretch of Brockman Boulevard as part of a street redesign to make way for a new sidewalk while saving trees.

City Council voted 7-0 Thursday, Nov. 6, to prohibit parking along the south side of the neighborhood street from Brock Court to Ferdon Road, just off Packard Street, where the city is planning to fill gaps in the sidewalk network in 2026.

Some neighborhood residents last year shared concerns a new sidewalk could take out trees along their shady street , but city officials since have unveiled a compromise.

After engaging with the public, city staff came up with a design that narrows Brockman Boulevard from 31 feet to 22 feet wide to create additional space for a 5-foot-wide sidewalk, City Engineer Nick Hutchinson s
