Syracuse, N.Y. - Firefighters tackled an abandoned house fire in the Southwest neighborhood early Monday morning. No one was harmed in the blaze.

Firefighters got the call at 12:14 a.m. for a fire in the 800 block of South Avenue, according to Captain Erik Caster, a spokesperson for the department.

Caster said crews actually found the fire coming from a block away at 415 Hudson St.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic of the 2 1/2 story building, Caster said.

Firefighters encountered heavy conditions and opened up the house to find potential victims and also removed a nearby tree for access, Caster said.
