AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking an Austin-based nonprofit to court, accusing the group of spearheading an illegal voter registration scheme.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office filed a lawsuit against Jolt Initiative, a group that promotes civic engagement and voter registration among young Latinos in Texas.
The suit claims Jolt volunteers stationed outside of Texas DMV locations and tried to recruit people to submit unlawful voter registration applications. Paxton claims the alleged scheme was designed to register undocumented immigrants without proper identification.
Paxton called Jolt a “radical, partisan operation,” accusing the nonprofit of knowingly trying to corrupt the voter rolls and weaken the voices of Texas voters.
The lawsuit asks for a court
